Abstract: This study explored the impact of knowledge building pedagogy within a collaborative learning community on students’ understanding of computational thinking (CT). The participants were 101 middle school students who attended a 6-week course to work on Scratch programming guided by knowledge building principles. An international challenge test on computational thinking called “Bebras Challenge” was employed to evaluate students’ CT. Primary findings indicate that students significantly improved their CT skills in the end of the course.
