Abstract: | This poster investigates how the arts can support children’s identities as learners and valuable community members who engage in environmental issues. We build on literature that positions art as a political medium, and places affect at the forefront of learning, identity, and engaging with communities. Findings come from an art installation children (6-8 years) created as a PSA for the school community on the importance of pollinators in our ecosystem. We use artifact analysis to examine wire sculptures, signs, and videography to illustrate how art supported children’s identities as change makers who cared for the environment. |
