Abstract: | This session aims to curate a collection of posters by cross-field scholars who integrate arts-based methods for equity-oriented education research in and beyond the learning sciences. Historically, education research has perpetuated colonial approaches to knowledge production that have harmed non-dominant communities under the guises of “rigor” and “objectivity”. This session will provide attendees with concrete examples of how scholar-artists are using arts-based research methods to 1) unsettle what it is to “know” in education research from diverse locations in the field and 2) pursue humanizing directions alongside historically-marginalized communities. Given educational research’s complicity in perpetrating harm against nondominant communities, this session aims to provide a space at ISLS for attendees to imagine alongside presenters how arts-based methods can be mobilized for justice. |
