Abstract: Abstract: Developing an understanding of education as a complex, adaptive system can be useful in helping leaders understand the impact of various interventions on the system as a whole. This paper describes the design of two learning opportunities, which draw on Actor Network Theory, for assisting state science coordinators in exploring complex educational systems in their state. We respond to a call for research on how representational tools can help education leaders develop understandings of complex systems. The authors conducted a design study to address the question, how do state science education leaders use representations of complex systems to understand their networks and identify leverage points for change?
